The Breaks Collective is a hip hop fusion band that prides itself on live performances.
No two shows are the same, spontaneity and tight arrangements go hand in hand. Even those who have claimed to dislike hip-hop have found themselves getting down to the Breaks…
A seven piece live jazz and hiphop band specialising in lyrical poetry with clever chord and beat arrangements, The Breaks Collective was a project born in 2005 when a local group of musicians from (Barnstable) North Devon collaborated in a series of 'jam' style gigs. This quickly formed into a band and the 'Short Guy, Long Trousers' EP was recorded, followed by 'Broken' and then the album 'Finally'. In 2012 they released 4 singles in aid of 2 national charities that gained them local media attention from 24/7 Magazine, 'BBC Radio Devon' and a 'BBC Spotlight' feature (see YouTube). This year (2013) they released the new album ‘Audio Art’ (a remix of the album due for release
in the future). 14 tracks developed in their own studio that reflects their live sound and production skills. A melting pot of music with a few collaborations this album has been a long time coming, but well worth it. In their time they have supported De La Soul, The Nextmen, Toots and the Maytals, Jazz legend Courtney Pine, Gilles Peterson, The Pharcyde and The Scratch Perverts to name a few. They have also headlined stages at ‘Gold Coast Ocean Fest’, ‘Aeon' festival and ‘Fat Face World Freestyle Mountainboard Champs' among others and played at venues all over the UK.
This year (2013) the collective have featured at some solid gigs including Relentless Boardmasters, Llama festival and Maker Sunshine Festival.
